At the junior kitchen house we celebrated our new year\u2019s with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodtimeline.org\/newyear.html\">traditional black-eyed peas and greens<\/a> (for a prosperous 2009 \u2013 peas for money that jingles and greens for the kind that folds), plus we added this wonderful golden <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recipezaar.com\/Sunny-Cream-of-Cauliflower-Soup-72957\">cauliflower soup from RecipeZaar<\/a> to our supper.  (We skipped the hog jowls, may <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationmaster.com\/encyclopedia\/Yule#Ancient_traditions\">Freyr have mercy<\/a>.)  A bowl of warm soup seemed like just the right comfort food needed for winding down after the holiday season and easing into a new year.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float:right; padding:7px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/juniorkitchen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/cauli02-copy.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-386\" title=\"cauli02-copy\" src=\"http:\/\/juniorkitchen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/cauli02-copy.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>I modified the recipe a little, but in general, this soup was just perfect for getting ready to face whatever comes next. And no vegetable makes a dinner seem quite as formal as cauliflower!<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Ingredients<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>2\u00a0Tablespoons olive oil<\/li>\n<li> 2\u00a0cloves garlic <em>(the recipe says \u201cdiced,\u201d but we think \u201cminced\u201d is closer to it)<\/em><\/li>\n<li> 1 onion, chopped<\/li>\n<li> 1\/4\u00a0teaspoon light brown sugar<\/li>\n<li> 1\u00a0pinch salt and pepper<\/li>\n<li> 1 head cauliflower, cut into florets.<\/li>\n<li>4 cups vegetable stock (add more as needed)<\/li>\n<li> 1\/3\u00a0cup heavy cream<\/li>\n<li> 1\u00a0Tablespoon turmeric<\/li>\n<li> 1\u00a0teaspoon curry powder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Directions<\/h3>\n<p>In a large soup pot, heat oil and saute your onions with the garlic, brown sugar, salt and pepper. Once the onions are translucent, add stock and cream. Plop in the cauliflower and cook until tender.<\/p>\n<p>Scoop out the cauliflower and puree in food processor or blender. Return to pot to simmer with the rest of the ingredients.
