This is one day out of the season  when the owners host a tour of the farm and explain crop rotation, pest control and all the other good things that farmers know about. The best part for our little ones was being allowed to pick vegetables directly from the field. We came home with a stash of carrots, little tomatoes and summer turnips.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/juniorkitchen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/sofarm.jpg\" title=\"sofarm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/juniorkitchen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/sofarm.jpg\" alt=\"sofarm.jpg\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis is another recipe from my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Vegetarian-Suppers-Deborah-Madisons-Kitchen\/dp\/0767916271\/theguilofscie-20\/\">find <\/a>at the library.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4 russet potatoes<\/strong>, peeled and chunked<br \/>\n<strong> 3\/4 lb or more of turnips<\/strong> ( 8 to 10 small summer turnips)<br \/>\n<strong> 1 sprig thyme<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> sea salt<\/strong> and <strong>fresh ground pepper<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> 1 tbs olive oil<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> 2 large onions<\/strong>, sliced about 1\/4 inch think<br \/>\n<strong> 1 lb, more or less, turnip greens<\/strong> (we used swiss chard)<\/p>\n<p>1. Put <strong>potatoes and turnips<\/strong> in a pot, cover with cold water, and <strong>add the thyme<\/strong> and <strong>2 tsp of sea salt<\/strong>. Bring to a <strong>boil<\/strong> and cook uncovered until soft, <strong>20-25 minutes<\/strong>. Drain, then <strong>mash<\/strong>, adding cooking water if needed to thin the vegetables. Taste for salt and season with pepper. Keep warm.<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Heat the  oil<\/strong> in a skillet. Add the <strong>onions<\/strong> and cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until golden and tender, <strong>12-15 minutes<\/strong>. Season with salt and pepper and turn off the heat.<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>Cut off the stems<\/strong> from the <strong>swiss chard<\/strong> or turnip greens. Cook in <strong>boiling salted water<\/strong> until tender, about 8 minutes, but taste to make sure. Drain, then <strong>add them to the pan<\/strong> with the onions.<\/p>\n<p>4.
